Two-Part Series
Dementia is an umbrella term that refers to a variety of medical conditions that involve memory loss and other problems with thinking that interfere with a person’s day-to-day life. Because people are living longer, more families find themselves facing dementia, memory loss, or Alzheimer’s disease. This seminar will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, special considerations for caregivers, and resources available to support patients and families through the journey of dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a teaching tool that simulates the experience of dementia and allows caregivers to better understand the physical and mental challenges of those with dementia. After experiencing this sensory training, caregivers will have a greater understanding of the realities of what it is like to live with dementia. This unique, interactive program has been shown to improve communication and care practices for those caring for someone with dementia. Learning to create a positive environment for those with dementia can only come from attempting to walk in their shoes.
