The Destin Library will partner with the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance this summer to provide a hands-on science experience for children ages 5 to 12 years. From Shelves to Shores is a program that provides the opportunity for youth to play an active role in the restoration of the Choctawhatchee Bay.
During the months of June and July a total of six sessions, which include hands-on activities, will be scheduled. Topics will include Salt Marsh Exploration, Oysters, Watershed, Water Conservation, Touch Tanks with Live Animals, and a planting field experience. In addition, children registered for the program will have the responsibility of maintaining a small marsh nursery at the library.
At the conclusion of the program, children will participate in a field trip to a Choctawhatchee Bay restoration site to plant grasses they have grown during the summer.
This summer’s From Shelves to Shores program will be held on Friday mornings (9:30 AM) at the Destin Library on June 8, 15, 22, 29 and July 13 and 20.
Parents of children interested in participating in this program are required to register them in advance. To register, visit www.cityofdestin.com/library.
