EMERALDCOASTCON is Okaloosa's very first gaming convention at Emerald Coast Convention Center going into it's 2nd year.. The 'con' will be a two day event held on October 8th and 9th and is dedicated, but not limited, to retro, current-gen, next-gen and indie gaming and game development, adult and children cosplay contests and gaming tournaments for cash prizes. Emerald Coast Con is not only for gamers and techies, but will also include a broad assortment of pop-culture exhibits and fanfare for lovers of comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, and multi-genre entertainment throughout the Southeast. The Arc of the Emerald Coast (formerly Horizons of Okaloosa County) has established Emerald Coast Con as an annual fundraiser. All proceeds received from the event will go directly to help finance and support their operations. This event is unique in that is produced by and all proceeds benefit a 501c(3). "We are thrilled to continue to bring this event to the Emerald Coast", said Donna Tashik, Community Development Director at the Arc of the Emerald Coast. " This is a great opportunity for our organization, but for our entire area, as it has the potential to bring in thousands of visitors in a shoulder season".
Sponsorships are available now by contacting organizers, and new sponsors will be joining other wonderful local companies, including Bit Wizards, The Wyndham Garden Inn, The Ramada Plaza Beach Resort, The Boardwalk, Wild Willys Adventure Zone, Cumulus Broadcasting, Cox Communications, RadJunk, The Peterman Agency and Okaloosa TDC..
Vendor space for artists and genre related booths are also available.
Exhibits at Emerald Coast Con include gaming tournaments, a retro console room, retro arcade room, fan booths, cosplay contests, special effects artists, game developers, Q and A panels, trade rooms, and many other exciting themes. Emerald Coast Con is inviting local and state colleges to showcase their computer-science programs and to host panels. Organizers invite all to "like" the event on Facebook, to keep up with many promotions upcoming, including VIP tickets for the price of regular for a limited time, give-aways of room stays, and others. The Arc will bring attention to their works to an empowered industry of game designers, developers, and multi-genre entertainment providers and their loyal fans. Emerald Coast Con is an effort to capture appreciation for gaming and media arts entertainment, advocate computer-science education and literacy, and build awareness and recognition for the disabled. In addition to raising support and mass awareness for our local charity, we will strive to establish Emerald Coast Con as the 'gaming event' for Northwest Florida and appeal to pop-culture enthusiasts from all over the Southeast. The Arc of the Emerald Coast provides services to over 450 men, women and children in Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their services include 0 to 3 early intervention, a Childrens Center, 3 Adult Training Centers, 5 group homes, assisted living, job training, placement and transportation, as well as advocacy to the disabled.
