May is Better Hearing Month and Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast Senior Spirit program will host its May Healthy Living Seminar titled “Hearing Loss and Dementia” on Wednesday, May 9 at 10 a.m.
Do you have trouble hearing as well as remembering and problem solving? Untreated hearing loss results in less stimulation to the auditory brain. It is the reduced stimulation of the brain that is credited with accelerated mental decline and a higher risk of dementia in seniors with hearing loss. Treating the hearing loss improves communication skills which leads to a more socially active lifestyle and increased stimulation of the brain which helps to keep the brain fit.
Carol Whitcomb Powell, PhD, a board-certified clinical audiologist with HearingLife, will present on hearing loss and the relationship with dementia, cognitive impairment and the psychosocial effects on the individual and the family.
Join us to learn more about hearing loss and dementia. This free community-education seminar will be held in Sacred Heart Hospital’s Resource Center, Suite 3 Conference Room. Call (877) 416-1620 or (850) 278-3600 to register. For more information about Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, please visit www.sacredheartemerald.org.
