The Destin Library will host a presentation entitled The History of the East Pass – East Pass and the Destin Lighthouse Keepers, on Tuesday, January 31st, 2016, at 5:30 PM. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Seats will be limited for this presentation and interested individuals are encouraged arrive early for this program.
Destin historian Hank Klein tells the story of the East Pass – the inlet from the Gulf of Mexico to Choctawhatchee Bay located at Destin, Florida.
Its location has changed over the years from a narrow, crooked, shifting and sometimes shallow inlet to the wonderful deep water inlet and harbor we enjoy today.
Learn about the lights that used to guide mariners into the old East Pass and the Destin fisherman who were its light keepers.
Destin fisherman also moved south to become lighthouse keepers of other lighthouses and one even came to his death in a tragic murder that has been unsolved to this day.
Klein’s newest book, Destin Pioneer Settlers: A Land History of Destin, Florida from 1819-1940, will be available for sale following the presentation.
Also available at this time will be Tony Mennillo’s book Salty memories…along the Coastal Highway – Historical Stories of Destin and the Emerald Coast.
