Popular Historian Hank Klein will present, “The OLD East Pass and the Destin Lighthouse Keepers” during History Sandwiched-In, a free public program at the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida, Friday, January 12 at 12:00PM.
Klein will tell the story of the OLD East Pass – the inlet from the Gulf of Mexico to Choctawhatchee Bay located at Destin, Florida. Its location has changed over the years from a narrow, crooked, shifting and sometimes shallow inlet to the wonderful deep water inlet and the harbor we enjoy today.
Learn about the lights that used to guide mariners into the old pass and the Destin fisherman who were its light keepers. Destin fisherman also moved south to become lighthouse keepers of other lighthouses and one keeper even came to his death in a murder that has been unsolved to this day.
Bring a sandwich and join us for History Sandwiched-In, an informal lunch-time education program at the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida, Friday, January 12 at 12:00 p.m.
