Beach Renourishment Administrative Order MadeCity of Destin Press Release
Destin, FL, July 5 - The Administrative Judge has ruled that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) may issue the permit to the City of Destin, FL, and Walton County, FL, to restore 6.9 miles of beach within the City and County.
City of Destin officials received the recommendation late Friday afternoon. Lindey Chabot, Grants and Projects Manager for the City, stated: This is excellent, but not unexpected, news. The City of Destin, Walton County, and the DEP were confident that the parties had gone above and beyond to meet DEP guidelines and State law regarding permit requirements for a beach restoration project. We are looking forward to starting this much need critical restoration project in the near future.
The petitioners, Save our Beach, Inc., and Stop The Beach Renourishment, Inc., had legally challenged the issuance of the DEP permits in August 2004.
The final administrative hearing on this case was held June 7, 2005, in Sandestin, FL. Administrative Judge J. Lawrence Johnston presided over the hearing.
All parties to the case have the right to submit written exceptions within 15 days from the date of the Recommended Order.
