Local Artist Wins Destin Seafood Festival Poster and Button Contest
Destin Area Chamber Press Release

Destin, FL, July 18 - The Destin Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces Judy Shillingburg as this year’s winning artist in the Seafood Festival Poster and Button Contest.

Chosen by the Destin Charter Boat Association, the Seafood Festival Committee, and the Destin Area Chamber Board of Directors and staff from among six entries, the poster depicts a chart of the Destin area. Five local scenes appear as enlarged bubbles over the Gulf. The scenes, including dolphins, a basket of crabs and corn, pelicans, the Destin bridge, and fish, are what one mightsee if scanningthe Destin docks and harbor with a telescope.

The winning button, also one of the five enlarged bubbles on the poster, shows crabs and corn spilling out of a basket with a charter boat in the background. “Nothing says Seafood Festival better than a crab boil,” said Shillingburg.

She entered the contest because Destin has been her home for 25 years, and she likes to stay involved in the community. She includes the beauty of the area in her artwork, so people may take pieces home and remember their time here.

Shillingburg reiterates that this year’s entry was a Shillingburg family affair. Her daughter Jennifer, another local artist, did the graphics, and her husband Ernie did all the printing and framing. Shillingburg also had winning entries in 2000 and 2004.

The 27th Annual Destin Seafood Festival will be held at the Morgan Sports Complex October 7 – 9, 2005. This year’s headliners include The Grass Roots, starring original lead singer Rob Grill, on Friday night and Lou Gramm, lead singer of Foreigner, on Saturday night. More than 100 local and regional arts & crafts vendors will participate. Stay tuned to www.DestinSeafoodFestival.org as more entertainment is announced. Admission buttons, which will allow access into the Festival for the entire weekend, are $5. Buttons go on sale at the Chamber August 1.
