Destin Area Chamber of Commerce... The Nation's Best
Destin Area Chamber Press Release

Destin, FL, Aug. 15 - The Destin Area Chamber of Commerce is officially the nation's best.

The American Chamber of Commerce Executives' (ACCE) made this designation Friday night at its Annual Conference Awards Gala in St. Louis, MO, with the presentation of its Award for Excellence in the $200,000 - $499,000 dues category. The Award for Excellence is the "highest achievement in the membership development profession, recognizing an organization's excellence in financial performance, member programs, internal operations, and organizational mission," according to ACCE.

This award is a testament to the Chamber's success in fulfilling the mission set by its Board, Building a World-Class Community One Business at a Time. "We could not have achieved this award without the stellar guidance and leadership provided by our Chamber president and the staff's commitment to the success of our mission. The Destin Chamber is putting our business community on the map," said Board Chairman Tim Fulmer of Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC.

Once qualified for the Award for Excellence based on its above average net gain in new members, net gain in new member dollars, and retention rate, the Chamber completed an application process evaluating excellence in programming and management. Within the application, the Chamber highlighted its commitment to the Destin community by successfully pulling off the 26th Annual Destin Seafood Festival just a few short weeks after Hurricane Ivan. The event was a much needed relief to a community still in hurricane recovery mode, and, in that spirit, the Chamber waived the admission fee.

Within the application, the Chamber also emphasized success in its recent staff restructuring, creating the position of communications director, and its efforts in publishing the 2004-2005 Guide to the Emerald Coast, offering area businesses national and international advertising at local rates.

Chamber President & CEO Shane Moody completed final interviews for the award last week. "To be recognized as the top Chamber in America is a compliment to the Board for their world-class vision for our organization and to our staff for their ability to carry out a world-class work plan. But, ultimately, it's a compliment to the membership and business community for their belief in our efforts and their desire for Destin to become a world-class community," said Moody.
