Destin Receives Distinguished Budget Award

Destin, FL, Oct. 10 - The City of Destin has received the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2004 Budget.
The award represents a significant achievement. It reflects the commitment of the Destin City Council and city staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
City of Destin Finance Director Lisa Rolan says, "This is the second year the City has won this prestigious award. It is staff's hard work and dedication that produced an award-winning document that now only ensures a balanced budget, but also enables the City Council to make thoughtful choices, guides department services, and most importantly is understood in simple terms by City residents. The City strives each year to provide a budget document that not only shows the operating costs of the City, but includes information on the vision and goals that drive the decisions on how the City's resources are spent and the services provided with these resource."
Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in four categories - policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device - to receive the award.
The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals in the US and Canada. The award is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
