Winners of 19th Annual Destin Boat Parade Announced
Destin, FL, Dec. 12 - On Dec. 11, Destin's harbor danced with lights as 22 boats decked out for the holiday season paraded past the docks during the 19th Annual Destin Boat Parade, which is a part of the Holiday on the Harbor events.
Winners were chosen for each of five categories judged:
Private 26 foot and above: Hallie - John and Joan Faris
Charter/Commercial 25 foot and under: Elmo I - Towboat US - Destin
Charter/Commercial 26 foot and above: SWOOP - HarborWalk Marina
Sailboat: Nathaniel Bowditch - Rex Walley
Tour Boat: Southern Star - Capt. Steve Wilson
No boat was entered in the 'Private 25 foot and under' category.
This year's judges included Destin City Manager Greg Kisela, Destin City Councilmember Sam Seevers, and Destin Log Editor Jim Wagner. The event was hosted by the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce, Destin Charter Boat Association, and the Destin Harbor Business Association.
Holiday on the Harbor festivities culminate on Saturday, Dec. 31, with a fireworks show and boat cruise. The Southern Star will board at 7 p.m., after supplying revelers with horns and hats, and the fireworks will begin at 8 p.m. The cruise will be $15 for adults and $5 for children. Children under three will be admitted free. For reservations, call Southern Star at (850) 837-7741. The fireworks will be shot from Norriego Point and may be enjoyed from many spots along the harbor.
