Destin Area Chamber and Destin Harbor Association Announce Merger

     Destin, FL, Sept. 4 - During an afternoon press conference today on Destin’s harbor, representatives of the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Destin Harbor Association announced a merger between the two organizations.

     “The Destin Area Chamber of Commerce has been a strong advocate of the harbor, the fishing fleet, and the redevelopment that is underway,” said Chamber Chairman Myra Williams, Howard Group, as she made the announcement. “This merger will mean that the Chamber will take on the challenge of assisting these harbor district business owners in marketing and redeveloping the harbor.”

     The Chamber will create a Harbor Association Advisory Board to serve as a committee to guide the Chamber Board on harbor-related issues. The Chamber’s Board also amended its bylaws to create an executive committee position for the chair of the Harbor Association Advisory Board, ensuring the chair of that board has a position at the highest level of decision-making in the Chamber.

     “As President of the Destin Harbor Association, we see this merger with the Chamber as a tremendous opportunity to serve Chamber members, our members, and the citizens of Destin to a far greater degree,” said Destin Harbor Association President Shane Cannon.
