Destin Area Chamber Donates $12,500 to Area Non-Profits
![]() During the Nov. 14 Business to Business Breakfast, the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce presented $12,500 in donations to area non-profits. Destin, FL, Nov. 17 - During its Nov. 14 breakfast meeting, the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce presented $12,500 in donations to area non-profits. The donations were due to the success of the 30th Annual Destin Seafood Festival, the community event of which the Destin Area Chamber is the official organizer.
Three years ago, the Chamber decided to make the festival into even more of a community event by allowing Destin area non-profits to volunteer for key roles and providing a donation in return, said Chamber Vice President of Communications Elizabeth Spies. Since the program began, this Chamber has donated $43,500 to the local community and the non-profit organizations that serve it. The donations were based upon the number of people and hours each non-profit organization dedicated to assisting in the festivals token and admission booths. Those organizations receiving donations included Airport Vets Boy Scouts; American Heart Association; Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast; Children In Crisis, Inc.; Covenant Hospice; Destin Elementary School; Destin Harvest; Destin History and Fishing Museum; Destin Garden Club; Destin Rotary Club; Destin Toastmasters Club; Destin Women's Club; Elder Services of Okaloosa County; Emerald Coast Association of Realtors; Emerald Coast Hospice; Emerald Coast Parrot Heads; Hurlburt Spouses Club; Junior League of the Emerald Coast; Kiwanis Club of Destin; Okaloosa Arts Alliance; Okaloosa County Habitat For Humanity; Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Florida; Shelter House, Inc.; Sinfonia Gulf Coast; and Wildlife Rehabilitators Partnership. In 2009, the Destin Seafood Festival will celebrate its 31st anniversary.
