Florida’s Impending Storm – The Insurance Solvency Crisis
Destin, FL, April 7 - Property owners in Okaloosa County are invited to become more informed about property insurance matters at an open forum this month. The summit, scheduled for April 14, will be held at Emerald Coast Conference Center (1250 Miracle Strip Parkway, SE, Fort Walton Beach) and is free and open to the public. AAA Insurance & Travel, Pinnacle Insurance, and the Ryland/Morrow Allstate Agency are sponsoring. “Florida’s Impending Storm – The Insurance Solvency Crisis” will examine the potential collapse of the Florida property insurance system and will include discussion of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe fund, the Florida Insurance Guarantee Association and the lack of capital within the system to support claim payments in the event of a hurricane. Facilitator for the event will be former State Rep. Don Brown, who served as Chair of the State Committee on Insurance and is an insurance professional in Walton County. Agenda topics include an historical perspective on the Florida property insurance market, the importance of insurer solvency and the state of Florida’s government and private insurance programs, and consumer protection through insurance regulations. The summit runs from 8 a.m.until noon and is sponsored jointly by the Crestview Area, Destin Area, Greater Fort Walton Beach, and Niceville Valparaiso Chambers of Commerce. For more information, please contact any Okaloosa County Chamber of Commerce office. Return to 2009 Press Releases.
