Destin Area Chamber Issues Resolution Opposing Amendment 4
Destin, FL, Jan. 18 - During its December 2009 meeting, the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors issued a resolution recommending defeat of Amendment 4, formerly called “Hometown Democracy,” during the 2010 general election. If passed, it would require Floridians to vote on every requested change to their local comprehensive land use plans. “Amendment 4 would absolutely cripple the state of Florida in job creation and in generating tax revenue for the state and communities,” said Chamber President and CEO Shane Moody, IOM, CCE. “It would increase the cost of running a business, especially one related to growth and quality development. It will dilute the number of voters who go to the polls because of the ridiculous number of items that would be on a ballot. It’s one of the worst amendments I’ve ever seen.” Please click here to view the entire resolution. Return to 2010 Press Releases.
