Board Issues Resolution in Support of County and City Leadership

Destin, FL, June 17 - In appreciation of the leadership shown, the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors issued a resolution in support the Okaloosa County Board of Directors and City of Destin in their actions to protect the beaches and coastal waterways of Okaloosa County and Destin, even without approval from the Unified Command.

Please read the Board’s ‘Letter to the Editor’ below:

I am writing this letter on behalf of the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. We commend the Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners and the City of Destin for the decisiveness and leadership they have shown to protect our beaches and local waterways.

We appreciate and respect the severity of the issues they face. Their courage and foresight to take action as needed should be applauded. While protocol is important, delays from following such protocol should not jeopardize the way of life and quality of life we all love and enjoy. The economic impacts from the effects of this oil disaster could be long-lasting. Their decision to take action to protect both residents and businesses in our area is exactly the decision they needed to make.

As the leading business organization in the Destin area, we thank them and encourage them to continue to move forward with actions as they see fit. Their guarding of our beaches and waterways will result in quicker response times and less damage. Keep up the great work!

Sincerely,
Destin Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
