Northwest Florida Regional Transportation Planning Meeting
The Northwest Florida Regional Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) will be meeting on Wednesday, July 15, at 1:30 p.m., at the Destin City Hall Annex. The TPO is an entity made of up two Transportation Planning Organizations (Florida-Alabama and Okaloosa-Walton) and public officials from four northwest Florida counties (Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton).
The agenda includes a vote to support the Regional Network Project Priorities for FY2011 – FY2015, as well as discussion of HB 5013, which authorized the TPO to study the feasibility of advance-funding the costs of capacity projects in its member counties and making recommendations to Legislature by Feb. 1, 2010.
Destin Forward Affords Detailed Study of our City
Applications are available for the next class of Destin Forward, set to begin in August 2009. Up to 25 business professionals will be accepted into this community education and leadership program for a hands-on learning experience into the issues facing the Destin area on a day-to-day basis. Participants learn from community and business leaders and experts in fields ranging from the environment and boat safety to tourism promotion and government affairs.

Applications Available for Leadership Okaloosa
Leadership Okaloosa is an esteemed leadership training and development program with a 20-year history of being a vital part of Okaloosa County’s growth and development of its leaders. This 10-month experience is designed to enhance the participant’s leadership skills and provide community awareness. Hosted from September to June, participants receive class room instruction, interact with key community leaders, tour area businesses, network with classmates, and take part in a group project to benefit the community.

Chamber to Host Monthly Lunch
After many requests from our membership, the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce is going to begin hosting a monthly lunch, called Leaders in Business Lunch. The first will be Aug. 19, at Embassy Suites Hotel Destin-Miramar Beach, where Mayor Craig Barker will present a State of the City Address. More details may be found on our Events Calendar.

Win Backstage Passes to Meet Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Survivor!
The Chamber is holding a contest for its members with the grand prize being backstage passes to meet Destin Seafood Festival headliners Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Survivor!
The member who sells the most in new festival sponsorship dollars each month will be recognized at the following month’s Business to Business Breakfast and will win two weekend festival admissions and two VIP passes. The VIP passes will provide access to the Chamber’s VIP tent during the entire festival.
A grand prize winner will be chosen from the monthly winners based on which winner sells the most in new festival sponsorship dollars over the course of the entire contest. The grand prize winner will receive backstage passes both Friday and Saturday night, which will grant access to meet the headliners during designated times before their performances.

Chamber Hosts Destin Seafood Festival Golf Classic
Sept. 11 – 12 marks the debut of Northwest Florida Gulf Coast’s premier amateur golf tournament, the Destin Seafood Festival Golf Classic. The tournament offers a two-person-team, best ball format along the well manicured fairways and greens of Destin’s original course, Indian Bayou Golf Course. Two-person teams are $550, which includes two days of tournament play, as well as one practice round, breakfast and lunch each day, and a cocktail party to kick off the event.
The tournament will be flighted at the completion of Friday’s play. Saturday tee times will be assigned after flighting. Prizes will be awarded in all flights.
This tournament will begin the celebration of the 31st Annual Destin Seafood Festival, set for Oct. 2-4, on the Destin harbor.
