Florida’s Children’s Week (January 21st – 26th, 2018) is the only annual event held in the state of Florida that celebrates and honors its commitment to children and advocates. This legendary event began more than 20 years ago during the tenure of Governor Lawton Chiles.
Beginning on Sunday, January 21st, tens of thousands of pieces of ‘hand art” will be hung throughout the Capitol Rotunda creating an amazing display of children’s art. ‘Hand art” is designed and decorated by children, collected and packaged and transported to the state capitol. The Hand Art hangs in the Capitol Rotunda as a reminder to legislators and advocates that we must take care of our most precious commodity – our children.
Children and young adults throughout Destin are encouraged to stop by the Destin Library beginning Wednesday, December 27th, and design a “Hand Art” project to be attached to vertical ribbons and then sent to Tallahassee for the annual Children’s Week celebration. All materials for this project will be supplied by the library.
