President’s Speaker Series: Dale Berra, Former Major League Baseball Player and Author
Dale Berra, the son of Yogi Berra, is a former Major League Baseball infielder who played from 1977 to 1987 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros. In Dale’s extraordinary life, there were also extraordinary challenges.
When Dale started in the Majors, he was only 20-years-old with a bright career ahead of him. All of that was cut short when he started using drugs. Cocaine slowly took Dale’s promising career away and it could have taken his life too if it wasn’t for his father’s love.
In MY DAD, YOGI, a strikingly honest, loving portrait of a unique father-son relationship, Dale discusses for the first time his drug use and the intervention from his father and family that turned it all around. Dale credits Yogi as the reason he is now clean and sober all of these years later.
