Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida Continues to Virtually Serve the Youth
May 12, 2020As an organization driven by one-to-one connections, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida (BBBSNWFL) has to adapt in many ways due to COVID-19, but the health and wellness of everyone they serve is their top priority. In response to COVID-19, BBBSNWFL remains virtual. The staff of BBBSNWFL is working remotely but remains ready and available to assist the community in any way possible via phone and email. Now more thane ever do children need mentors. When Littles have a Big who is there for them, even if it can't be in person right now, it makes all the difference.
"During these unprecedented times of fear, anxiety, and worry it is important that our children have someone to turn to." Said President & CEO, Paula Shell. "BBBSNWFL is working hard to continue making matches in order to provide consistency and stability in a time we need it most."
BBBSNWFL is continuing to serve the children of Northwest Florida. The staff has conducted all volunteer and child interviews online and is even making matches for new Bigs and Littles virtually. Like many, BBBSNWFL has adjusted to a new normal and relies on technology to continue to serve their communities. Although matches are unable to spend time together right now, that does not mean they can't still spend time together. The Bigs of BBBSNWFL have found fun and innovative ways to stay connected and continue to have a positive impact on the lives of their Littles. For example, Bigs Facetime, call, or text with their Littles. They play Words with Friends together, virtually read or cook together, and even have virtual dance competitions! BBBSNWFL encourages Bigs to stay connected during this time.
Now is the time to be bigger together. If you are interested in enrolling your child, we have several amazing female volunteers wanting to make a lasting impact in a young girl's life. Visit bbbsnwfl.org or call 850.433.KIDS. If you are in Bay County, call their local office at 850.763.KIDS.
