CVHN Announces Megan Trent as Executive Director

Children’s Volunteer Health Network has officially announced their new Executive Director, Megan Trent. Trent has worked for CVHN for three years, serving numerous roles within the organization, such as Mental Health Coordinator and most recently, Associate Executive Director. The change in leadership was one thoughtfully planned out, with Trent being well-versed in CVHN’s daily inner workings as well as the overall mission of the organization.

“CVHN has built a fantastic reputation over the past 17 years through the work we have done in our local community. I believe we are at the perfect place where we can honor our history while also looking towards our bright future and the impact we will continue to have as an organization,” said Trent. “I’m grateful to be a part of such a hardworking team who truly cares about helping children reach their full potential.”

Previous Executive Director, Kelley Mossburg, made the decision to retire but will continue his involvement with CVHN by serving as a board member. Mossburg is looking forward to seeing Trent at the head of the organization and believes she is the perfect person for the job.

“I am most excited to see our new Executive Director, Megan Trent, take CVHN to new heights. She was most recently our Associate Executive Director and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table,” said Mossburg. “She has a passion to serve and a heart for our mission. I am certain she will exceed all expectations in her new role. We are very blessed to have her.”

Trent won’t be the only one settling into a new role within the organization. Joining the CVHN team is their newest Dentist, Dr. Iysha Cawthon, a 2017 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Cawthon brings unique experience to CVHN from working at a clinic within a hospital setting and volunteering for over a decade in programs for special needs individuals. Cawthon reflects on that time in her career, and how she feels it has prepared her for this new role.

“Though I could never understand each individual’s particular challenges on a personal level, I believe my awareness and empathy for their experiences has made me a more caring and respectful dental practitioner,” said Cawthon. “Serving my community has been close to my heart from early on.”

This time of transformation brings further changes to the organization, including the addition of five new board members. Lisa Marie Burwell, Dr. Bradley Harrelson, Will Burns, Coley McMillan, and Linda Miller are taking their seats at the table to aid in the growth and success of the organization. Burwell is the founder and CEO of Cornerstone Marketing & Advertising, Inc., as well as the Founder/Editor-in-Chief for VIE Magazine, where she has shared the story of CVHN’s mission for countless years. Burwell is known for her think-tank mentality, fostering a spirit of innovation and creativity in all she does. Harrelson comes to the CVHN board with experience as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Blue Water Oral Surgery Center, P.A. Before pursuing a dental career, he received his Masters of Divinity and served as a youth pastor in California. Harrelson has a long list of accolades through serving as a youth pastor, a volunteer dentist, his time in dental school, and his time in the Air Force.

Burns, having served on the board in 2021, is now serving as the new CVHN Board President. Burns works as a financial advisor in Destin, Florida, and is an active supporter of numerous charities. Also joining the team of hardworking professionals is McMillan, an Auburn University graduate who has many years of experience working with children and nonprofits in her hometown of Brewton, Alabama. McMillan also works as a full-time mom and co-owner of Codeword Hats and Mudbug Mafia, a Gulf Coast catering company, where she works alongside her husband. The fifth and final new board member joining CVHN is Miller, Broker and Owner of Linda Miller Real Estate. Miller has over 24 years of experience in luxury coastal real estate and has spent over three years serving on the Board of Directors at Emerald Coast Association of Realtors.

CVHN is looking forward to what the future may bring for their organization with the addition of the five board members and the variety of experience each member brings to the table. For more information on CVHN and their growing team, visit cvhnkids.org and follow CVHN on Facebook and Instagram.
