Destin Chamber Awards Outstanding Members For 2019
On Dec. 17, almost 200 Destin Chamber members gathered for the Holiday & Awards Party presented by Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital to celebrate the successes of 2019 and honor outstanding community members.
Surrounded by the festive décor of Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village, 2019 Destin Chamber Chairman Julie Cotton of Northwest Florida State College presented the awards.
For going above and beyond in service to the Destin Chamber and the community, Michelle Terry, Dale E. Peterson Realty, received the James D. Neilson, Sr., Chairman’s Award for Volunteer Service. Through her commitment and assistance, the Chamber launched two new committees, creating valuable, relevant programming for its members.
Introducing Mitch Mongell, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, as Business Person of the Year, Cotton said, “This year’s winner deserves this recognition for so many reasons. He’s led his organization through several major expansions, creating high-skill, high-wage jobs in the community. He’s improved the quality of life for his employees through improvements to boost morale throughout the multiple branches of the business. His community involvement goes beyond what many in his position can do.”
She went on to introduce attorney Jeff McInnis, who told a story about how Mongell was able to protect the safety and wellbeing of a hospital patient, while helping him fulfill his lifelong dream to become a US citizen.
The Ann Gibson Community Service Award was presented to Allen French, Trees on the Coast. By connecting volunteers and local businesses, French has created non-profit organization solely dedicated to making our area a more beautiful place to live, work and play.
Fred Fenn of Fenn Properties LLC, this year’s Paul Woolman Ambassador of the Year, works tirelessly as an ambassador to ensure the events and activities in which he is involved flow seamlessly for those in attendance. Through his coordination of volunteers and logistics, one of the Chamber’s biggest annual events Paddle at the Porch continues to grow each year.
“If you were to put a definition in the dictionary for ‘chamber ambassador,’ it would include his picture,” explained Cotton of Fenn’s commitment to the chamber and its ambassador program.
Cotton also recognized the Chamber’s outgoing board members, including Vickie Giles of ResortQuest and Michelle Terry of Dale E. Peterson Realty.
Thank you to all event sponsors that contributed greatly to the event’s success, including title sponsor Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital; food station sponsors Destin Commons and Okaloosa Gas; and media sponsor Land Air Sea Productions.
