The Destin High School (DHS) Governing Board and Principal Christine Cruickshank will be conducting Information Session Meet & Greets on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. for future 9th grade students, and at 6:30 p.m. for future 10th and 11th graders. The sessions will take place at the future home of DHS (Grace Lutheran) to acquaint potential students, their families and the community about DHS, the curriculum, and more.
The much-anticipated DHS is slated to open for 9th and 10th graders, and possibly 11th graders, in August of 2021. The tuition-free Okaloosa County public charter school is purchasing Grace Lutheran’s property located at 4325 Commons Drive West, next to the Mattie Kelly Cultural Arts Village. DHS will be a model for innovation providing unique educational opportunities for both college-bound and career-minded students living in Destin and along Florida’s Emerald Coast.
Applications for the 2021-22 school year will be accepted there, and DHS’s shark mascot will be on hand. Social distancing and CDC guidelines will be practiced at the Information Session Meet & Greets. Masks are recommended.
Plans are to open at a 350-student capacity in the first year. Students will also benefit from a smaller school setting, which will allow for a more personal educational experience.
