United Way Emerald Coast’s COVID-19 Relief Fund continues to lift up thousands of families across our community. This month, we surpassed 24,000 neighbors served since launching the fund in April! These are neighbors, families, and friends right here in Okaloosa and Walton counties who needed our help. And you made that help possible. Thank you to everyone who believes in our mission and has so generously supported our efforts.
We just wrapped up our fiscal year and I’d love to share a few important highlights with you. We’re really proud of what we were able to accomplish together!
• From the funding side, more than $863,000 was awarded in grant funding across Okaloosa and Walton counties. These grants were made possible thanks to the generosity of individual donors, corporate gifts, federal funding, grants, and sponsorships. We invest dollars in local nonprofits and programs with results that are measurable, sustainable, and meeting current community needs. We look forward to seeing what they are able to accomplish through these funds. Stay tuned – we’ll report those results to you each quarter throughout the year. I’m sending each of our donors a virtual high five for your support!
• This past year, 1,825 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and donated 9,208 hours in service to our community. That represents a total value of $234,166 to the nonprofit community. Without their hard work and dedication, many of these local nonprofits simply wouldn’t have had the capacity to complete these tasks. If you were a United Way volunteer this past year, pat yourself on the back. You rock!
• Our internal programs and initiatives like ReadingPals, FamilyWize, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and Cram the Van helped thousands of individuals across our community be better prepared for school, access quality healthcare services, and save money on tax preparation services. If you volunteered, donated, or shared these initiatives with others, please know your efforts are making a difference in our community.
As we move forward into our next fiscal year, we are committed to finding new, innovative ways to rally support and provide critical resources - check out our awesome Rock United virtual event here. We are committed to maximizing our impact by amplifying effective, results-driven programs, partnering with and connecting aligned organizations, and leveraging our own unique assets. COVID-19 is of course a new challenge for us, but we’re up for it. United Ways were built for this!
