Hilton Sandestin Beach Executive Chef Dan Vargo Earns First Place at Gulf Shores Oyster Cook Off
Executive Chef Dan Vargo of Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa won first place in a head-to-head oyster cookoff during the 12th Annual Gulf Shores Oyster Cookoff (Nov. 1-2). The cookoff took place Saturday, Nov. 2 and required all competitors to create a minimum of 24 dozen oyster in each of the three categories: Rockefeller, Gulf Coast Cajun and raw oyster. Chef Dan received first place in the raw oyster division for his Double D farms oyster with mango, jalapeño, cilantro and lime mignonette.
Nearly 10,000 visitors gathered for the event, enjoying two days of oysters, spirits, craft beer and music right on the beach, and the culinary talents of the best chefs from around the Southeast. Notable celebrity chefs in attendance included Iron Chef Michael Symon and world-champion BBQ Pitmaster Chris Lilly, along with Food Network and Bravo stars.
