During the Destin Chamber’s June 11 Business Before Hours, John Tringas, Chairman of FNBT Bank, was honored with the Chamber’s Business Person of the Month Award. This award is presented directly from the Chamber’s Board of Directors to a Destin area businessperson showing vision for his or her business and leadership in our community.

“Mr. Tringas has been an integral part of this community for so long. FNBT has supported so many non-profit efforts, adding to the quality of place in this community. FNBT Bank is one of only two companies that have been members of the Destin Chamber for the 54 years we’ve been in existence. That says something about the quality of the person and the quality of the business,” explained Destin Chamber President & CEO Shane A. Moody, CCE, FCCP.

FNBT Bank was founded 65 years ago by John’s father, Jimmy Tringas. He went to work for the bank in 1968. Starting as a teller, he worked his way through the ranks to his present position as Chairman of the Board. Over the years, his family contributed much to the local economy, including the first theaters in Fort Walton Beach, various small businesses and real estate developments. FNBT Bank is thriving as the last community owned and community managed bank on the Emerald Coast and can report that nearly 30 percent of its employees have worked at FNBT for more than 20 years.

Tringas and his family have been instrumental in the establishment of several community organizations, including the All Sports Association and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast. Most recently, the Tringas family contributed to the ongoing work at the Mental Health Association of Okaloosa and Walton Counties and provided the funds necessary to construct a new group home at Children in Crisis. In honor of Tringas’ late son, the James Travis Tringas Cottage was completed in 2015 and houses 12 foster children, providing an environment that allows siblings to remain together. The Foundation established by John and Pat Tringas to honor their son continues to provide ongoing support for the Cottage.
