Local Coast Guard Aux Unit 081-01-04 Change of Watch
The Destin / Ft Walton Flotilla (F14) of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Aux held its Change of Watch ceremony on Saturday, January 11th., 2020, at USCG Station Destin. Flotilla 14 is part of Division 1 of the 8th Coastal Region of the USCG Aux.
Henry Rice is now serving as the new Flotilla Commander (FC). Sheresa Waller, who served as the Flotilla Commander in 2019, is the new Vice Commander (VFC). The swearing in ceremony for the oath of office for leaders and their staff was administered by Division Commander (DCDR) Daniel Berry.
USCGAUX F14 has been serving the greater Destin/Ft Walton area, inspecting commercial vessels, providing logistical support for search and rescue, marine environmental safety, public affairs, boating safety, and contingency preparedness for Coast Guard Station Destin for over 60 years.
The United States Coast Guard Aux has over 28,000 members and is an organization of uniformed volunteers authorized to perform all of the functions of the active duty Coast Guard except direct law enforcement and military operations. Trained and qualified Aux members perform a variety of activities in support of the United States Coast Guard. Very often a call to Coast Guard Station will be answered by a member of the Aux.
Aux members serve as watch standers at Coast Guard stations, taking distress calls and providing information to the public. In response to last year’s hurricane season, over 30 Coast Guard Aux members from Division 1 volunteered to support the Coast Guard and local Emergency Operations Centers.
Aux members take great pride in being a part of ‘Team Coast Guard’ and often work side by side with the active duty United States Coast Guard.
