The Florida Association of Chamber Professionals (FACP) recognized Shane A. Moody (left), CCE, FCCP, and Elizabeth Spies (right) for their years of service to the chamber industry, during the FACP annual conference, held Sept. 17 – 19, at The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Shores, Fla.

Moody, President & CEO of the Destin Chamber and a previous chairman of FACP, was recognized for 25 years of service. He has served the Destin Chamber in his current role since 2004, following positions at the Clayton County (GA) Chamber of Commerce, Laurens County (SC) Chamber of Commerce, and Greenville (SC) Chamber of Commerce. Through his leadership, two of those chambers have been recognized as the nation’s top mid-sized chambers, receiving the Award for Excellence from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. The Destin Chamber received this honor in 2005 and the Laurens County Chamber in 1999.

Spies, Vice President of Communications of the Destin Chamber, was recognized for 15 years of chamber service. Also during the event, she was installed as the 2019-2020 FACP Chairman of the Board. As Chairman, Spies will lead a board of 30 chamber professionals and oversee their direction in providing professional development opportunities for those within the chamber of commerce industry. She replaces Dawn Adams, IOM, Chief Financial Officer for the JAX Chamber, in this role.

Adams, seen in both pictures above, presented the service awards.

“FACP is comprised of chamber of commerce professionals across the state, striving to operate their organizations at the highest level, continuing to learn best practices and trends, and working tirelessly to strengthen their local business communities. In helping each other build our own communities, we are all working together to strengthen Florida’s business community. I’m honored to be trusted to lead an organization full of professionals I hold in the highest regard,” said Spies.

Before beginning her career with the Destin Chamber in 2004, Spies was a website content manager for vacation accommodations company ResortQuest International, now known as ResortQuest by Wyndham Vacation Rentals, and a science writer for the Office of Naval Research in Arlington, VA. She graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Biology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism.
