Destin, Fla., Oct. 12 On Oct. 11, Murphy USA celebrated a groundbreaking with the Destin Chamber.

Murphy USA's vision is to deliver the quickest, most friendly service and a low price value proposition to its growing customer base for the products and markets it serves. The groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction for its brand new 1200-square-foot retail fueling station at 15051 Emerald Coast Pwky., in Destin.

Murphy USA began in 1996 as a retail gasoline venture between Murphy Oil Corporation and Wal-Mart to build Murphy USA stations in the parking lots of Wal-Mart supercenter stores. At that time, Murphy USA was a downstream subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation, which was then an integrated oil and gas company. On Aug. 30, 2013, Murphy USA spun-off from Murphy Oil Corporation as a standalone gasoline and convenience retail company. On Sept. 3, 2013, it began trading under the ticker symbol MUSA on the New York Stock Exchange. The spin-off was designed to enhance Murphy USA's ability to grow, innovate, build capabilities, and focus on its core business as the leading low-price retailer in its sector.

Headquartered in El Dorado, Ark., Murphy USA is now one of the largest independent retailers of gasoline products and convenience store merchandise and has expanded to a network of more than 1,400 locations in 26 states across the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest regions of the United States. Its stores are 100 percent company operated and 90 percent company owned; most are adjacent to Wal-Mart stores. Murphy USA serves approximately 1.6 million customers per day. Murphy USA also currently operates 126 stores in Florida with two more currently under construction in Fort Myers and Bradenton. An additional store in Tampa is set to begin construction this year.

"We are excited to open this site, which allows us to bring quality, affordable fuel to our neighbors and surrounding communities. We plan to continue our high standard of customer service and retail operations," explained Andrew Clyde, Murphy USA's President and CEO.

Present for the groundbreaking ceremony were Murphy USA employees District Manager Mike Joiner, Division Director Jason Mauriell, Destin Store Manager Tiffany Wiley, Store Manager Cris Caron, Store Manager Donnarae Morris, and Store Manager Tammy Pettway. Also present were Destin Chamber staff and Ambassadors, including Bryana Bahmer, Fred Fenn, Greg Guzman, Bill Head, Heather Julseth, Skip Overdier, Irina Roberts, Todd Scali, Sherry Schneider, Mike Schneider, Ty Smith, Pamela Sparks, and Elizabeth Spies.
