The Northwest Florida Ballet (NFB) Académie will hold auditions for third and fourth graders entering the 2021-2022 academic year on May 1, by appointment only. Incoming third-grade students will audition from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., in 20-minute increments, and no prior dance experience is necessary. Incoming fourth-grade students will audition in 30-minute increments from 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., and at least one year of recent ballet experience is required.
Students must register by April 28, at 5 p.m., as space is limited and time slots are assigned in advance. Auditions are open to all children in the community, and selection is made solely on the child's ballet potential. Dancers will be taken into the audition in small groups and spaced accordingly upon entering the studio through the appointment duration. Students will begin the process by checking in outside of the main doors of the NFB studios in downtown Fort Walton Beach. They will be required to wait until they are called, and parents must remain outside, as the NFB lobby will be closed.
Dancers will be required to sanitize their hands and have their temperature taken upon entering the building, and staff will wear masks and gloves. After each group finishes, dancers will be escorted back outside to their parents. If the dancer or anyone in the same household is experiencing any COVID-19 related-symptoms, alternate options will be made available.
Celebrating 20 years, the NFB Académie is a free, nationally acclaimed integrated arts and academic program for third through eighth-grade boys and girls who demonstrate the potential to excel in dance. Académie students receive concentrated instruction in ballet as a part of their overall academic and artistic education. Certified elementary and middle school teachers under the Okaloosa County School District's direction supervise the educational program. French, art and music are taught weekly.
