Today, the Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) certified the ballots received in a union election to determine if Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners skilled trade employees desired to have American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Florida Council 79 (AFSMCE 79) serve as a bargaining agent on their behalf.

Out of 250 employees, 177 participated in the secret ballot process. Ninety-nine out of the 177 votes rejected the union.

“The outcome is welcomed by the County,” said County Administrator John Hofstad. “We look forward to continuing to work with our employees, to address compensation and benefits. Ensuring the excellent services to the constituents we serve in Okaloosa County remains a top priority.”

According to Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Carolyn Ketchel, “This is a meaningful step toward actively listening to our front-line employees, addressing their needs and providing the support they need to serve the citizens of this County.”
