Each year during the month of December, the Destin Library hosts a food drive to benefit the Harvest House Food Pantry. In the past, the library promoted this event as Food for Fines because the value of the donated food item was used to clear library fines on patron accounts. As of last year, the library no longer charges late fees, so the food drive was rebranded Harvest of Hope. Library patrons proved they did not need an incentive to give to a worthy cause and filled our donation basket multiple times

The City of Destin recently had its Harbor Pump completely rebuilt, an arduous process that has taken over six months. Parts original to the former pump configuration include the pump housing and one drive short shaft with the remainder being brand new. The pump’s re-installation began Nov. 18, with the arrival of a crane and support staff from Gilbert Pump (Fort Walton Beach). The City of Destin would like to clarify the Notice of Proposed Tax Increase that was issued last week. The tax increase is due to new residences becoming occupied and to property values increasing. The current Millage Rate of 1.615 went into effect on Oct. 1, 2015. The City of Destin proposes the same millage rate for FY22. Due to the rise of property values going up this equates to 3.75% increase in ad valorem revenues for the City of Destin. This helps cover increased labor and contracted service
