Three Tri-County HCA Florida Healthcare Teams Receive Nationwide Unit of Distinction Award

Three Tri-County HCA Florida Healthcare teams have received HCA Healthcare’s nationwide Unit of Distinction (UOD) award for exemplary nursing.

The following medical teams were recognized during a virtual ceremony Tuesday as the top-ranking nursing units across HCA Healthcare:

HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital: Cardiovascular intensive care unit; women’s and children’s services
HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital: Medical-surgical unit

“Our nurses are on the frontline every day, providing exceptional and compassionate care, and constantly advocating for our patients,” said Zach McCluskey, CEO, HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. “We are thrilled to recognize our outstanding nurses every day, but especially today, as we approach National Nurses Week.”

The same honor was given to HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital’s medical-surgical unit in 2016, and this year, ranks 10th among HCA Healthcare facilities across the country.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our healthcare colleagues have risen to the challenge and provided compassionate, quality care,” said HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital CEO, Todd Jackson. “We couldn’t be prouder of the resiliency, dedication and commitment our team continues to demonstrate, despite the headwinds of this pandemic.”

Launched in 2015, the annual UOD award program recognizes exemplary nursing units at HCA Healthcare facilities nationwide, where some 94,000 nurses are employed. The program is a component of our strategic focus on evidence-based practice, innovative care models and sharing to find the best of the best across our organization.

Departments must meet rigorous requirements to earn the UOD designation: Measurable performance in advocacy and leadership, consistency in nursing practice and operations, and leveraging scale to drive performance.
